Quinton Carlson, a Portland native, founded Wundersound as an original rock/pop/alternative band in December 2008.
Carlson began developing his musical talent as a student of fine arts at both Columbia University and Parsons School of Design. "I attended art school fully intending to take my art training into music. I wanted to develop my brain in terms of color and visual art first, pictorial thinking I felt was lacking in music schools. I happily discovered that people at art school were obsessed with music." Carlson's performance of his bold "The Ballad of Toadboy" was received with accolades which further encouraged his unique style.
Back in Portland in the 1990's, he played for two years in the band Dabbs Hotel as keyboardist. Carlson also explored meditation during this time and began to conceive a vision of music which included in it a quality that would cleanse, refresh and invigorate.
He moved to San Diego's nurturing warmer climate in the 2000's where he found work in sound engineering at studios Signature Sound and Studio C. From intern to studio manager then sound engineer and among the likes of Ike Turner, Switchfoot, Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and P.O.D., Carlson developed further his own vision for quality production music.
In late 2008, he returned to both Portland and his own music project by launching Wundersound. Until recently Wundersound has existed as a studio band, similar to Alan Parsons Project's beginnings, yet has used internet technology as the vehicle to reach out to audiences. 2013 is now Wundersound's inaugural touring year.
Carlson occasionally fills out his sound with accompanists and collaborators, but is enjoying this solo venture, saying "it feels like a returning to basics for a more personal communication with audiences". Wundersound is releasing its debut single this year.
